"Ruffed Grouse"
Have you ever heard of a ruffed grouse?Well,if you haven't,you might want to read closely and try to keep an eye on your surroundings at the same time because these birds are really good at camoflauging.Ruffed grouse are chicken-like brown colored birds or are sometimes a mixture of gray and brown. They are often larger than pigeons and their feathers are also grayish or reddish brown. The ruffed grouse gets its name from the black feathers that are "ruffed" or sticking out on its neck.Their appearance often includes a head crest,a square tail, and legs that are covered in fine wispy feathers.
The ruffed grouse is mainly found in Canada in forests or woodland areas.A ruffed grouses' diet consists of ground vegetation or some insects. The predators of the ruffed grouse are the fox, northern Goshawk, and the Great Horned Owl.The Ruffed Grouse does not migrate. They can lay 9-12 pinkish eggs, either plain or spotted and the color of the chicks may vary from white to light gray.Ruffed Grouse may also be known for their weird behavior. If threatened they will stay perfectly still and sometimes the male may beat the air with it's wings to make a drumming sound,to show their territory,or to attract females!
