"Fire"
Early men built fires by rubbing two rocks together. If one rock was a type of iron and the other was flint, then they would be able to generate some sparks for their fire.Another method was the Fire Plow Method which is demonstrated below.
FIRE PLOW METHOD:
  1. Find softwood(willows, ect.) for your plow that is 18 inches long and 2 inches wide.
  2. Use a knife or a sharp rock to make a groove in your plow board that is 1 inch wide,6-8 inches long, and 2 inches from the other end.
  3. Find a hardwoood stick(1 ft. long)with a sharp point at the end
  4. Lay the plow board on the ground and rub the plow back and forth to create wood dust.
  5. After you have a decent amount of wood dust, raise the top end of the board onto your knee so that the dust will collect at the bottom.
  6. Now rub as hard as you can with the plow until the dust starts to smoke.
  7. Pick up the board and blow so that the flame will be transferred to the wood dust to create a fire.
What is the safe way to build a fire in the wilderness?:
  1. Look for a spot in the clearing without any low-hanging branches or anything that will cause a fire spread.
  2. Dig a hole in the ground that is not too deep and then border the hole with medium sized rocks to help prevent fire spread.
  3. Place your tinder(crumpled paper, ect.)in the middle of the pit.
  4. Surround the tinder with sticks in the form of a teepee shape.
  5. Light the fire.
  6. Make sure that you estinguish the fire with water, dirt,or sand when completely finished.
